Valentine’s Month – that annual extravaganza so loved by all who believe in the power of love. Let me share some thoughts with you about love, and Rotarians, and what we are, what we do and how we share our love with others.
A joy in being the Governor is getting to visit clubs and see and hear what our members are making happen. I have learned about dictionary projects and scholarships complete with mentoring. Learned about creek restoration, literacy projects, malaria abatement in Nigeria, dysphasia projects in Cambodia, clean water in Ecuador and picking up trash on the Coastside.
I’ve been involved in a new Rotaract Club that is close to chartering, been to an informational meeting about a new satellite club and shared in the success story of a computer lab in Vijayawada, India. Water purification in a girl’s school in Kenya, medical and dental programs in the Philippines, Prime books in India, and a tribal girls school in Andhra Pradesh, India.
Two of our district clubs in the next few weeks hit 100 years since they chartered. Think of that: 100 years of projects of helping locally and internationally. A Rotary Peace Conference sponsored by 8 different Rotary Districts that was sold-out. Two other water projects, one in Nepal and the other in Ecuador, along with Son of a Ditch in Morocco.
All of this, and I haven’t even come close to all of the projects going on around the district. The trainings (sign up for Assembly today!), the Celebrate Hope in Action District Conference right around the corner, the project fair, PRLS, Rotary International in Calgary and just stop. Take a deep breath. Look at just your own club and all that you do, all those you help, all those that you want to help going forward.
Please take a brief Valentine’s Day moment and agree that Rotary is a fine way to share our values, our giving, our caring and our hopes for our world. Rotary is our love for putting our Hope in Action to share The Magic of Rotary.
Happy Valentine’s Day to all my favorite Rotarians in the whole world!
