During the 2024-2025 Rotary Year, District 5150 offered clubs the opportunity to apply for small grants up to $1000 to support environmental projects in their communities. More than half of our Rotary Clubs took advantage of the opportunity, and 13 Interact Clubs also joined the stewardship effort.

As Spring comes into full swing, this is the perfect time of year for vision for these grants to come to fruition.  Here is an example of an environmental grant recently put into use by the Interact Club of Terra Linda High School:

Dear Leadership of Rotary District 5150:

Thank you for honoring us with your generous environmental grant. Us at the Interact Club of Terra Linda High School were so grateful to receive this $1000 grant.

With the grant, we decided to contribute to the North Bay Children’s Center (NBCC) “Garden of Eatin” that grows edible plants to provide healthy meals to children. Our contribution included purchasing a variety of plants and trees, some which included lime, mandarin, and lemon trees, flowers including marigolds, rosemary and lavender, and soil. In addition to purchasing plants, we spent a very fun Saturday morning at the Children's Center helping them plant and prepare the beds for the crops we purchased. 13 students from our club attended and had so much fun out in the community. With the help of the Rotarians, the NBCC, the contractors on site, and of course our peers, we created a beautiful edible garden that can be used for years to come.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to experience all of this and help to care for our Earth through this environmental project, in addition to benefiting the North Bay Children's Center. The Garden of Eatin will eventually provide healthy, organic meals for over 200 children daily including breakfast and lunch. Again, thank you so much for this opportunity and we are so excited to continue to work on this project overtime!

Sincerely,
Mila Harding & Josie Campo, Interact Club of Terra Linda High School
