As an Emergency Room doctor in Marin County, Vicki became aware of a large quantity of almost-outdated medical supplies that the county was ready to take to the dump. Within a few days, she had the equipment (16 pallets worth!) delivered to her home and organized a group of fellow Rotarians to deliver the equipment to medical offices where the equipment could be used. Not only did this program fill a need for medical facilities, the redistribution efforts also helped keep the materials out of the landfill. Despite her workload, Vicki has participated in club projects throughout the year, and just this past weekend helped remove Star Thistle from the median on Redwood Boulevard in Novato.
Apart from being a Rotarian, Vickie has visited Guatemala for several weeks every year for the past 15+ years with Faith in Practice–a non-profit organization that provides medical care to the indigenous people there. She has also personally raised tens of thousands of dollars for this organization.
In her spare time, Vickie is a pilot and an equestrian who participates in grueling three-day events astride her horse “Ali.”
Once again, congratulations to Vicki Martinez from the Rotary Club of Novato Sunrise, our Rotary District 5150 Rotarian of the Month for August 2022!
