Rotary District 5150 proudly recognizes Ron Albert as our Rotarian of the Month for February 2026, honoring decades of service—and, most notably, an extraordinary personal commitment to Service Above Self in some of the most challenging conditions imaginable.
Ron is a former club president and currently serves on the Board of Rotary Senior Housing, as well as leading his club’s Rotary Foundation. Throughout his Rotary life, Ron has been known as a thoughtful, steady leader who quietly steps up wherever service is needed. Yet his actions over the past year stand out even by Rotary’s highest standards.
During the months of May, June, and again in December, Ron volunteered for a total of several weeks in Ukraine, working with two humanitarian organizations responding directly to the aftermath of missile and drone strikes. Traveling more than 20 hours by train from Warsaw to Kyiv—without local contacts beyond text messages exchanged via Telegram—Ron placed himself in an active war zone purely to help others.
While in Ukraine, Ron assisted with debris cleanup following attacks on residential apartment complexes and helped reconstruct homes that had been severely damaged or destroyed. His work took him as far north as Chernihiv and surrounding villages near the Belarus border. On multiple occasions, Ron responded within hours of missile strikes, offering hands-on support wherever it was most urgently needed.
Ron has no personal, historical, or familial ties to Ukraine. His motivation was simple and profound: he saw suffering, felt compelled to act, and turned compassion into action. During his initial stay in May and June, Ron connected with two Rotary clubs in Kyiv, strengthening international Rotary ties. He then returned for an additional four-to-six-week deployment from December through January, continuing his volunteer service despite the ongoing risks.
Ron Albert’s courage, determination, and humanitarian spirit exemplify Rotary’s mission at its very core. His willingness to serve strangers in a dangerous and devastated environment reflects the very best of what it means to be a Rotarian.
Rotary District 5150 is deeply honored to recognize Ron Albert as Rotarian of the Month for February 2026. His actions remind us that Rotary’s impact knows no borders—and that one individual, guided by heart and purpose, can make a profound difference in the world.
