Congratulations to Johnny Wong of the Rotary Club of San Francisco Chinatown for being selected as Rotary District 5150's Rotarian of the Month for January 2025!
In Rotary, Johnny has been a dedicated member for just over two years, immersing himself in various Rotary functions and countless community projects. Since joining, Johnny has taken on multiple leadership roles, including serving as our Sergeant-at-Arms, a board member, and attaining his Paul Harris Fellow within his first year. He proudly wears his pin at every event, symbolizing his commitment to the Rotary mission.
Johnny’s contributions to the Club’s 32 community projects over the past two years have been nothing short of remarkable. He has actively organized and participated in each one, from volunteering weekly at the Chinatown Food Pantries to promoting the Annual Alzheimer’s Walk. Johnny has also served as a counselor at the District’s Annual RYLA event and continues to coordinate guest speakers for the Club. Most notably, he has stepped forward as the Club’s President-Elect Nominee for 2026-2027.
Johnny’s boundless energy and enthusiasm are evident in every aspect of his Rotary life. Whether bicycling to every meeting, event, or project, his tireless dedication inspires and energizes both Club members and the broader community. He works seamlessly behind the scenes, taking on leadership roles and ensuring the smooth operation of all events and projects.
Outside Rotary, Johnny is a proud first-generation American-born Chinese. His parents emigrated from Canton, China, to Iowa, USA, in 1947. Johnny reflects on his upbringing in a family business with five siblings, which instilled in him the values of diligence and teamwork—qualities that defined his 37-year nursing career. Johnny retired from nursing in 2022 after a distinguished career of service and care.
Johnny is equally proud of his personal life, celebrating 42 years of loving marriage and raising two sons. He considers himself richly blessed and continues to share his blessings through his unwavering dedication to Rotary and the community.
