Congratulations to Rotary District 5150 Rotarian of the Month for November 2021, Bruce Goines from the Rotary Club of Novato Sunrise!
Bruce joined Rotary in March 2017. In the short time Bruce has been involved in Rotary, he has participated in numerous projects and has provided hundreds of volunteer hours. For the last two years, Bruce has served as the Novato Sunrise’s Community Service Chair and has been responsible for coordinating and participating in a significant number of projects. Some of those projects include:
- Bullying Prevention Essay Contest for the Novato Unified School District (NUSD) with over 400 essays.
- Fishing in the City at Scottsdale Pond for Novato children.
- Smoke/CO Alarm Installation for Seniors
- Gilead House Apartment Renovation for single moms.
- Novato Fire Evacuation Maps Marketing and Distribution with the Novato Fire Department (NFD).
- Marin County Parks and Open Space trail restoration.
- Stafford Lake 5K Race registration.
- Novato Redwood Boulevard Tree Planting.
- Lee Garner Park Riparian Fence Construction with the City of Novato.
- North Marin Community Service (NMCS) Food Pantry Program.
- Extra Food Pickup and Delivery.
- Indian Valley College Riparian Restoration Tree Planting.
During COVID, Bruce’s Community Service group coordinated with a number of Novato charitable organizations to provide relief to those in need, including Gilead House, Homeward Bound, NMCS, and Wyndemere Apartments Fire Victims Emergency Relief. In addition, the group helped purchase and distribute COVID PPE to senior and low-income facilities; repair the mobile showers for the Downtown Streets Team, and supported the Novato small business relief grants program.
In addition to the many hours Bruce has spent on Rotarian related projects, Bruce has supported the Marin County community. After 47 years in forest resource management, Bruce retired in 2014 and has continued to serve the Marin and Novato communities as a super volunteer. He is currently serving his third term as a Director of the Novato Fire District and, in 2020, he was nominated to serve on the newly formed Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority (MWFPA) Board of Directors.
