Congratulations to Dr. Peter Webb of the Rotary Club of San Mateo for being selected as Rotary District 5150's Rotarian of the Month for September 2024!
Dr. Peter Webb has served in various roles throughout his many years with the club, including on the Board of Directors and as Club President. Peter understands the work required not only to keep a Club functioning but also to energize its members. He seamlessly balances working behind the scenes and taking on leadership roles, supporting club logistics, projects, fellowship, and connection.
Behind the scenes, Peter is a reliable presence, always ready to take photographs and contribute to the weekly publication of the Rotary Club of San Mateo's newsletter, Spinnings. He chairs the "Thought of the Day Committee," and his “Thoughts” are consistently thought-provoking, leaving a lasting impact throughout the week. During lunch activities, Peter is quick to jump in, leading table groups or helping wherever he can.
Peter is also instrumental in project support. The Rotary Club of San Mateo has established a partnership with a local elementary school to assist with their gardening program, which involves rigorous gardening days with many eager young hands digging in the dirt. Peter is always there, lending a hand during these special gardening days, ensuring their success.
As for signature events, Peter plays a crucial role in the club's annual Fun Run, a 5/10K race held each year to support the Scholarship Program, which provides approximately $100,000 annually to help students cover the ever-increasing costs of college. While Peter is not the Chair of the Fun Run, he is a driving force behind the event. He actively secures sponsorships, measures and lays out the race course, and is heavily involved in logistics on the day of the race. His involvement is key to the event's success.
Understanding the importance of fellowship in keeping a club energized, Peter established a Book Club, a new avenue for connection that has been hugely successful. This club has brought Rotarians together to read books and share their insights each month, fostering closer connections among participants.
